- In the rice fields of Penghu Town, Yongchun County, Fujian Province, the bamboo-fiber, fully biodegradable mulch film laid by Fujian Yangzhu New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. was applied to the experimental plot on August 4. Now, 11 days later, the films remain in excellent condition—tough, durable, and firmly protecting the newly sprouted seedlings.
- This experiment carefully set up two control groups: one plot covered with the new bamboo-fiber mulch film, and another left as bare soil. The primary goal is to scientifically verify the degradation period of the mulch film under real-world rice-growing conditions—specifically designed to be 90 days—and to assess its actual impact on rice growth.
- Unlike traditional plastic mulch films, which rely on fossil-based materials and can take centuries to decompose, Yangzhu Technology’s newly developed film uses natural bamboo fibers as its base material. Its biggest highlight? After use, it fully returns to nature, breaking down into harmless byproducts like water, carbon dioxide, and organic matter—leaving no trace of persistent microplastic pollution behind. This innovation not only serves as a practical response to the national "replace plastics with bamboo" strategy but also creates a green safeguard for healthy agricultural soils and food security.
- Currently, the plastic mulch is in the early stages of its degradation cycle but remains in good condition and continues to perform reliably. The research team will closely monitor its ongoing changes, documenting its impact on soil temperature and moisture levels, its effectiveness in suppressing weeds, and ultimately how it influences rice yield and quality.
